Dialogue
2025 — Kinetic sculptures, dim. 2x 300 x 300 x 50cm
Trained artificial neural network (Abstract Language Model), custom software, electric actuators, stretchable fabric, LED lights
Dialogue is the successor of Hypergradient (2016) and expands the analysis of interpretation into a communicating system. Inspired by the theory of Hermeneutics, the work transfers the relation between statement and interpretation into a dialogue situation between two abstract machines. Instead of alternating between distinct states, both conditions are present simultaneously and unfold in a continuous exchange.

The abstract machines manifest as two kinetic sculptures facing each other. Their movements and light conditions form a shared semiotic system, based on Abstract Language Model (2021–2023). As in Hypergradient, this system can be understood as a deputy for all known semiotic systems, yet follows its own inherent logic. The generated sequences can be described as abstract propositions, which are not directly readable but require interpretation through perception. Each machine produces and receives these propositions at the same time. While the sequence itself remains consistent within its own structure, its perception is constantly altered through shifting light conditions and physical transformations. Therefore, the distinction between statement and interpretation is no longer temporal, but relational: each machine acts as both sender and interpreter.

The spatial setup reinforces this condition: the sculptures establish a field of communication in which the dialogue becomes observable as a continuous process. The visitor can either remain outside this system or enter the space between the machines. By doing so, he becomes part of the interpretative structure and an active influence on the perception of the dialogue.
